Questions to ask any recruiting provider
Evaluate the provider against your actual role and hospital requirements. Request clear answers and written terms rather than relying on a generic ranking.
- Who sources candidates and what screening is performed?
- What will our practice need to do during the search?
- What becomes payable if the search does not result in a hire?
Prepare the role brief
Write down the information a candidate needs to evaluate the position before the search begins.
- Name the discipline and the required specialist credentials.
- Describe equipment, referral relationships and supporting staff.
- Define clinical autonomy, service development and on-call expectations.
Plan the work location in Seattle.
Name the neighborhood or city and the street address. Seattle’s planning office notes that its Community Reporting Areas follow census tracts and may not match local ideas of neighborhood boundaries, and Bothell lies in both King and Snohomish counties. Coverage on this site is limited to Washington State; a hospital in Oregon or Idaho falls under a different state licensing authority.
Give the hiring team one brief for each facility, with clinical work, support staffing, weekend duties and location commitments stated together. For a role that covers several hospitals, list the sites, the days at each and how schedule changes are communicated. Under RCW 49.58.110, Washington requires an employer with 15 or more employees to disclose the wage scale or salary range and a general description of benefits in each job posting, including recruitment done through a third party, so agree those details before outreach. This site describes employer hiring coverage without claiming a Seattle recruiting office.

Washington licenses a veterinarian who practices only a specialty through a veterinary specialty license, and WAC 246-933-300 requires certification as a diplomate of a national board recognized in the specialty, limits practice to that specialty and requires evidence of continued certification at renewal, so a Seattle specialist brief should name the discipline and the certifying board. The Veterinary Specialty Center of Seattle's page lists cardiology, critical care, internal medicine, neurology and surgery at its Lynnwood hospital, BluePearl's page for its Tukwila hospital describes board-certified specialists with 24-hour emergency care and specialty care by appointment, and VEG's page describes a walk-in emergency hospital in the Interbay Urban Center. Referral work depends on communication, so the Seattle brief should say who sends records and images, who calls the client and how results return to the primary care veterinarian, and WAC 246-933-320 requires a medical image to be released to another veterinarian who has the owner's authorization. The Department of Health sets 30 hours of continuing education every two years, with an alternative for a veterinarian who becomes board certified during the period or is enrolled in an approved residency for the whole period, so a Seattle specialist offer should state education support in the same terms.
Plan Washington credential checks before the start date.
Washington licenses veterinarians through the Department of Health, with rules set by the Veterinary Board of Governors. Assign a person to verify license status and any disciplinary action, record the date and resolve questions with the Department. Check specialty credentials the employer requires, such as board certification, with the issuing organization. The Department also licenses veterinary technicians and registers veterinary medication clerks, so confirm those credentials for the team the new doctor will supervise.
